What it does
The Succession Plan Generator turns a leadership scenario — planned retirement, sudden departure, founder transition — into a documented plan covering interim coverage, decision authority, communication, and the search itself. It produces the plan most boards keep meaning to write and never do.
Who it is for
Executive directors and board chairs who know they need a succession plan on file and want a credible first draft in an afternoon rather than a consulting engagement. Built for organizations without a dedicated HR function.
How it works
- Answer questions about your leadership structure, the transition scenario, and who holds which authority today.
- The generator drafts a full plan: interim coverage, a decision map, a stakeholder communication sequence, and a search timeline.
- You edit and export a board-ready document — and revisit it whenever your leadership changes.
Sample output
A multi-section plan: an emergency coverage one-pager, a signing-authority and decision map, an internal-and-external communication sequence, and a search-and-onboarding timeline. The sample uses a fictional mid-size organization.

You may not need this if you already have a current succession plan your board has reviewed, or if your transition is complex enough — multiple simultaneous departures, a contested founder exit — that you want a retained search partner from the start. This drafts the plan; it doesn't run the search.
In the meantime
Succession planning shouldn't wait on software.
